Program Gives Area Residents Chance to Experience University for a Day

The University of Scranton’s Schemel Forum will offer area residents the chance to experience the “University for a Day” on Saturday, Sept. 26. Participants will attend four lectures presented by distinguished professors on a range of topics. The event includes coffee, lunch and a closing reception.

Presentations include “Remember that Old New York Was Once New Amsterdam: The Dutch Roots of American Pluralism” by David Dzurec, Ph.D., associate professor of history at The University of Scranton, and “The Law of the Land: A Grand Tour of our Constitutional Republic,” by Akhil Reed Amar, Ph.D., Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University. Also, New York University Professor Colette Mazzucelli, Ph.D., will discuss “Wright Spaces: Citizenship Learning in Liquid Times.” Teresa Grettano, Ph.D., assistant professor of English and theatre at The University of Scranton, will present “Suis-Je Charlie? The Rhetoric of Solidarity in Civic Responses to 21st Century Terrorism.”

The participation fee is $25 for non-Schemel Forum members, which includes coffee, lunch and a closing reception.
