Professor Cunningham and His Old School Perform at Scranton on Sept. 11

Performance Music at Scranton kicks off their fall concert season with a performance by Professor Cunningham and His Old School on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in The University of Scranton’s Houlihan-McLean Center. Admission is free and the performance is open to the public.

This popular New York-based-band performs a swinging and grooving repertoire deeply steeped in the New Orleans tradition - from early jazz to early rhythm and blues in the aesthetic of Sidney Bechet, Fats Waller, Professor Longhair and even Fats Domino.

Formed by in-demand reedman and vocalist Adrian Cunningham, the ensemble consists of some of the most energetic and accomplished musicians on the New York scene. They have been a regular hit in the New York City underground party and swing scene since their formation in 2012, performing regularly to packed houses and touring the world playing jazz festivals and swing events. Cunningham is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and world traveler. Originally from Sydney Australia and now based in New York, he is proving to be one of his country’s top exports – with his fluent command of the saxophone, clarinet, and flute. He is one of the finest multi-instrumentalists in jazz.
