University Honors Alumni at Reunion

The University of Scranton will honor four individuals with the Frank J. O’Hara Alumni Award at its Alumni Weekend 2015 and three members of it class of 2010 with its inaugural Frank J. O’Hara Recent Graduate Award. The awards will be presented at a ceremony Friday, June 12, on campus.

The Frank J. O’Hara Alumni Award is named in honor of Frank J. O’Hara ’25, who served as an administrator at the University for 53 years. It is the highest honor bestowed jointly by the University and the Alumni Society. The 2015 recipients of the award are: Linda Mathers McGowan of Morrisville, class of 1980; Frank A. Milani, M.D., of Clarks Green, class of 1955; Megan Morgan of Newport, Rhode Island, class of 1995 and graduate class of 1997; and Vincent F. Reilly, Esq., of Philadelphia, class of 1980.

The Frank J. O’Hara Recent Graduate Award, presented for the first time this year, is bestowed to alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years and have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to service for others in their personal or professional achievements, and embody Scranton’s Catholic and Jesuit values. The inaugural recipients are Sean Kirk of Hoboken, New Jersey; Michael Clark of Wyncote; and Connor Dempsey of White Plains, New York, all from the class of 2010. The classmates established a scholarship in memory of the late Michael Mulhall ’10, who died in a car accident shortly after graduating from the University. They, along with Scranton students, alumni, friends, and members of Mulhall’s family, raised more than $100,000 for the scholarship through various fundraisers and events.

Linda Mathers McGowan ‘80

McGowan is a partner in the Banking and Capital Markets Group at PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP. She is the national regulatory consulting partner providing technical advice on regulatory and industry-specific accounting matters, among other duties. She has served numerous high-profile industry clients for more than 30 years. Her client work involves diverse products such as commodity funds, venture capital investments and collateralized mortgage obligations.

A native of Apalachin, New York, McGowan has maintained a strong connection to the University, serving on the executive committee of the University’s President’s Business Council and the Accounting Department Professional Alumni Council. A member of the Magis Society, McGowan served as founding chair of the Kania School of Management’s Advisory Board, and was instrumental in the creation of a highly successful internship program for Scranton students at PwC offices nationwide.

A founding member and board president of Innovations for Good, McGowan also serves on the board of the Emergency Relief Association of Lower Bucks County, and is outreach coordinator on her church council.

Frank A. Milani, M.D. ’55

Dr. Milani practices internal medicine with the Lackawanna Medical Group, P.C., in Scranton, of which he is the founding member. He also serves as a clinical faculty member at The Commonwealth Medical College.

After graduating from the University, Dr. Milani earned his doctor of medicine from Thomas Jefferson University in 1959. He interned in the Misericordia Division of Southeast Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia. He is a certified member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Echocardiography, to name just a few.

From 1975-1994, Dr. Milani was director of medicine at the Community Medical Center, and from 1977-2007, Dr. Milani was associate director, Northeast Residency in Internal Medicine. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965, attaining the rank of captain.

The University named Milani Hall in the Loyola Science Center in recognition of his long-standing support of the University, while also honoring the memory of several of his and his wife’s siblings. He is a member of The Ignatian and Estate Society at the University.

Megan Morgan ’95, G’97

A native of Scranton, Morgan is the associate commissioner for communications for the American Athletic Conference.

With 21 sports at 11 universities, The American Athletic Conference encompasses one of the largest geographic footprints in Division I intercollegiate athletics. Morgan is responsible for the conference’s public relations strategy and execution, external communications and brand marketing.

She began her career in research and development at Titleist, focusing on their line of golf balls, the company’s flagship product. She then became Titleist’s first ever director of tour communications, where she worked with professional golfers and the media, and had responsibility for the company’s own online content.

Morgan, who earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biochemistry from the University, holds two patents and has been published in The Journal of Physical Chemistry.

Her alumni service includes terms as vice president and secretary of The Alumni Society of The University of Scranton. Morgan is a member of the Magis Society and the University’s President Business Council, and is a supporter of the annual Carlesimo Golf Tournament and Award Dinner.

Vincent F. Reilly, Esq. ‘80

Atty. Reilly is founder and managing partner of Reilly, Janiczek & McDevitt, P.C., a 42-attorney firm with offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. His areas of practice include premises liability, product liability, toxic torts, professional negligence, fraud detection and prevention, trucking and transportation defense and general litigation.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University, Atty. Reilly earned his juris doctorate from Villanova School of Law. For several years he was named to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list, an honor given to those who have a high degree of professional achievement and peer recognition in the legal field.

Atty. Reilly is an advisory board member at Friends of St. Malachy, Inc., a non-profit corporation assisting St. Malachy Parish in North Philadelphia.

Atty. Reilly has served on Scranton’s Board of Trustees since 2011. He is also member of the University’s President’s Business Council, a supporter of the annual Carlesimo Golf Tournament and Award Dinner, and a member of the University’s Arrupe Society.

Four of Atty. Reilly’s five children graduated from The University of Scranton, as did his wife, Eileen O’Neil Reilly, class of 1982.

The Frank J. O’Hara Recent Graduate Award Recipients:

Sean Kirk ’10

Upon graduating from the University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, Kirk worked for three years as an institution fixed income asset manager for Western Asset in Los Angeles, California. Kirk then relocated to Hoboken, New Jersey, and currently works in the Leasing Department for Paramount Group Inc., a commercial real estate investment company based in New York City. He is a co-founder of The Michael Mulhall Foundation and serves on the foundation’s board
of directors.

Michael Clark ’10

Clark, who earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University, is currently a graduate student at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He also works as an operations analyst for NRG Energy. He is a co-founder of The Michael Mulhall Foundation and serves on the foundation’s board of directors.

Connor Dempsey ’10

Dempsey, who earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University, works as a compliance analyst, specializing in insurance fraud investigation for New York Life Insurance Company in New York City. Dempsey has also launched the website SelfTeeMe.com, which allows individuals to turn photographs into novelty t-shirts. He is a co-founder of The Michael Mulhall Foundation and serves on the foundation’s board of directors.
