University Announces Naming of Helen Gallagher McHugh Special Collections

The University of Scranton Weinberg Memorial Library’s Special Collections will be named the Helen Gallagher McHugh Special Collections, in honor of Brian E. McHugh’s mother. Brian E. McHugh has announced a planned estate gift to the Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Memorial Library in memory of his mother, Helen Gallagher McHugh. In memory of Mr. McHugh’s mother, the University has announced the Weinberg Memorial Library’s Special Collections will be named the Helen Gallagher McHugh Special Collections. Mrs. McHugh was born in Kingston and resided in Plymouth.

In addition, the Weinberg Memorial Library has appointed Mr. McHugh to the Advisory Board of the Friends of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Memorial Library. 

Mr. McHugh is a graduate of Kingston High School. He attended the University of Havana, Cuba, and earned a master’s degree in psychology from The University of Scranton in 1959.

A resident of Kingston, Mr. McHugh is a Korean War Veteran who served in U.S.A.F. as a member of an aircrew. His background includes positions in instruction, banking, construction and development. Mr. McHugh is a field consultant for business development at present. He is a member of The Friends of the Weinberg Library, the Schemel Forum and an active member of the Luzerne County Historical Society.

According to Charles Kratz, dean of the library and information fluency, Mr. McHugh shares both the vision and mission of the University in its spiritual and academic pursuits.
