University Astronomy Club Hosts Observation Nights for Meteor Showers

The University of Scranton Astronomy Club will host two free public star gazing events of meteor showers in July and August, which will take place on the Observation Deck of the new Loyola Science Center.

The first observation night will be of the Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower Saturday, July 27. This celestial event can produce 15 to 20 meteors per hour. Rain date is Tuesday, July 30.

The second observation night will take place Monday, Aug. 12 of more famous Perseid Meteor Shower, which is one of the best meteor showers to observe from the Northern Hemisphere. Rain date is Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Prof. Nicholas Truncale, faculty specialist for the physics department, will supervise each event. Participants will gather in the Loyola Science Center atrium, Ridge Row, at 8:30 p.m.
