Science Education Takes Center Stage at Dedication

For 15 years, those planning the Loyola Science Center envisioned a facility that would serve as a place of learning for all who enter, providing a valuable resource to the entire University of Scranton community and the Scranton area at large. On Friday, Sept. 28, those aspirations will come to fruition with the Loyola Science Center’s dedication ceremony at 4 p.m.



The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the Dionne Campus Green opposite the Commons entrance to the center. It will be followed by a reception and tours. In case of inclement weather, the dedication will be relocated to the center’s first floor.

This culminating event will celebrate the facility’s arrival, as well as the University’s decades-long commitment to excellence in science.

The center will serve as “the academic heart of campus,” explained University President Kevin P. Quinn, S.J. “It will be a place of research, scholarship, teaching and discovery, a place to find God in all things.”

The dedication begins a semester-long series of events, entitled “Celebrating the Loyola Science Center: Science as a Human Endeavor,” giving the campus and community an opportunity to experience the center firsthand.
