Management Professor Receives Outstanding Service Award

    Gerald Biberman, Ph.D., professor of management and marketing at The University of Scranton, received the 2010 Outstanding Service Award from OBTS (Organizational Behavior Teaching Society): Teaching Society for Management Educators at the 37^th annual Organizational Behavior Teaching Conference held recently at The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M.

    The award recognizes contributions made to the society over a number of years. Dr. Biberman served on the society's board of directors, as a reviewer for submissions, and as coordinator and Mater of Ceremonies of the annual talent show. He also displayed commitment to important conversations about spirituality that enrich the field of management education.

            A resident of Scranton, Dr. Biberman joined the faculty of The University of Scranton in 1981. He served as chair for the Management and Marketing Department for more than 12 years and has taught courses in organization behavior, power and politics, personnel management, group dynamics and other areas since the early 1980s. He uses a variety of spiritual techniques from around the world to write, teach, consult, speak and conduct workshops.

            Dr. Biberman serves as editor of the Journal of Management, Spirituality and Religion, and the co-editor of Work and Spirit: A Reader of New Spiritual Paradigms for Organizations. He was the first recipient of The University of Scranton Kania School of Management Scholarly Achievement Award in 1999 and received it for a second time in 2003.

            Dr. Biberman was the founder and chair of the Management, Spirituality and Religion group of the Academy of Management. He has published numerous articles, presented papers, consulted and presented seminars on topics such as spirituality and business, total quality management, continuous improvement, leadership, decision making, office politics, corporate culture, employee performance appraisal and time management.

            He earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree and Ph.D. from Temple University, Philadelphia.
