University of Scranton continues National Sportsmanship Day celebrations

In celebration of the 20th annual National Sportsmanship Day, The University of Scranton will host class of 1993 alumnus Matt Davidson, Ph.D., an expert on character education, executive director of the Institute for Excellence and Ethics, and former Royals lacrosse player, during a PIAA-sponsored workshop Wednesday, March 10, in the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center on campus.

Students Can Step Forward As They Follow Early Christian Practice

A practice popular among Catholics in the Middle Ages will make its way to campus on Monday, March 29. University Ministries will offer the labyrinth, an early Christian spiritual tool used for meditation and reflection, in the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Representative Smith Announces $1 million in Funding for Mulberry Street Improvement Project

Pennsylvania House Representative Ken Smith announced $1 million in funding support for the multi-million dollar Mulberry Street Improvement Project spearheaded by the City of Scranton, Scranton City Council and The University of Scranton. Funding comes through the Commonwealth’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program and requires matching support from The University of Scranton.

‘Shakespeare and the Drama of Love’ to be Discussed at Lecture

A Georgetown University professor, who asserts that love plays a major role in virtually all of William Shakespeare’s plays, will deliver the sixth annual J.J. Quinn, S.J., Memorial Lecture at The University of Scranton on Wednesday, April 7. The lecture, which is open to the public and free of charge, will be held in the Houlihan-McLean Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Zimbabwe Pianist To Perform at Schemel Forum Concert

Pianist Jeanette Micklem, one of Zimbabwe’s leading musical artists, will perform as part of The University of Scranton’s Schemel Forum Concert Program. Micklem will present “A Schumann Recital: On the 200th Anniversary of his Birth and Insights into Zimbabwe from an Artist’s Perspective” on Sunday, April 18, at 5 p.m. in the Houlihan McLean Center. A “meet the artist” reception will follow.

Acclaimed Organist to Perform on Historic Organ

Organist extraordinaire Frederick Hohman will return to The University of Scranton on Friday, Mar. 26, at 7:30 p.m. for a performance on the University’s historic Austin organ in the Houlihan McLean Center on campus. Hohman, a critically acclaimed organist and composer, will return to the Houlihan-McLean center for his fourth recital on this recently restored instrument. The concert is free of charge and open to the public.

Scranton Makes President’s Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction

The University of Scranton is among just 115 colleges in the nation, and one of only 17 schools in Pennsylvania, to be named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition colleges and universities can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service learning and civic engagement.
