University of Scranton Business Club Names Professor of the Year

         Douglas M. Boyle, MBA, CPA, CMA, faculty specialist in accounting at The University of Scranton, has been chosen as the Kania School of Management (KSOM) Professor of the Year by the university's Business Club.

        "I'm humbled, surprised and honored," said Boyle, who teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes in accounting. "I care a lot about my students, and this endorsement by them will motivate me to work even harder."

        A graduate of The University of Scranton with a bachelor of science degree in accounting, Boyle also serves as president of Empirical Healthcare Consulting, LLC, a company that provides financial and operational solutions to healthcare organizations. Currently pursuing a doctor of business administration (DBA) degree at the Coles School of Business at Kennesaw State University, Boyle believes that his strong professional and academic background enables him to offer his students a unique perspective on the business world.

        After two semesters as an adjunct faculty member at The University of Scranton, Boyle began the fall 2009 semester in a full-time role. "I've always enjoyed the atmosphere at the university," he said. "Our reputation stems from having a great faculty, motivated students, a clear mission and strong community involvement. I'm grateful to the university's administration and faculty for making my transition from business to education a smooth one."

        Boyle has held several upper-management positions with companies ranging from start-up to Fortune 500. He is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization, the Institute of Management Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. After graduating from The University of Scranton, he earned a master of business administration (MBA) degree from Columbia University.

       A Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant, Boyle has achieved Six Sigma Black Belt certification. He has participated in ongoing executive programs at Harvard Business School, Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, the Center for Creative Leadership and the Chopra Center in operations, human resources, strategy, leadership and wellness, respectively. Boyle attained the status of "professionally qualified faculty member" by completing the Bridge Program of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Boyle has achieved Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

A resident of Dalton, Boyle is an avid cyclist and enjoys various wellness activities.
