The University of Scranton Listed Among Nation's Best Business Schools

The Princeton Review has named The University of Scranton's Kania School of Management among the best business graduate schools in the country for the fifth consecutive year. The 10th edition of Princeton Review's Best 301 Business Schools published on Oct. 6, 2009.

Faculty Member Wins Nursing Education Award

The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) presented Marian L. Farrell, Ph.D., professor of nursing at The University of Scranton, with its 2009 Nursing Education Award. This prestigious award recognizes a member of PSNA who contributes to the advancement of nursing education and demonstrates strength of character, commitment and competence. The recipient is selected by peer members of the association.

Award-winning Author to Speak at The University of Scranton

Bestselling author William Bernhardt, a former trial lawyer known for his mastery of the courtroom drama, will receive the Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library Royden B. Davis, S.J., Distinguished Author Award at a reception at The University of Scranton on Nov. 14. The award ceremony will be held in the fourth-floor McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center beginning at 5 p.m. Reservations are required to attend.

Human Trafficking Discussed at Jesuit Honor Society Lecture

The American Public Media's Marketplace explains that human trafficking "is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world," worth over $32 billion in both the "sale" of victims and the value of their exploited labor. This practice today, known as human slave trade, involves every country in the world including the United States, with nearly 17,000 people being brought here each year and forced to work as slaves.

Film Festival Commemorates 20th Anniversary of Fall of Berlin Wall

The University of Scranton will host a German Film Festival to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The festival, which is free of charge and open to the public, begins on Nov. 9.

University of Scranton Professor Recruiting Subjects

Volunteers are needed for a study on body chemistry, measuring the effect of consuming one medium potato at lunch and dinner. Volunteers must be between the ages of 18 and 65 and have elevated blood pressure, but not be taking any prescription drugs, supplements or vitamins.

Scranton Plans to Remember Jesuit Martyrs

The University of Scranton will remember the lives, mission and brutal murder of six Jesuit priests and educators, their housekeeper and her daughter that occurred in El Salvador twenty years ago. The University is planning a series of events to mark the 20th anniversary of their martyrdom and to further our understanding of the relevance of their lives and deaths.

Law, Medical and Graduate School Fair Planned for Area Residents

More than 30 institutions will participate in The University of Scranton's annual Law/Medical/Graduate School Fair on Oct. 28. The fair, open to students from area colleges and area residents, will be held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center. Hosted by Scranton's Office of Career Services, the fair is free of charge.

Scranton Listed Among the Nation's Top Producers of Fulbright Students

The University of Scranton tied for second place among Master's Institutions in the nation for producing Fulbright fellowships. The list of colleges ranked as the nation's Top Producers of Fulbright Students was published in Oct. 18, 2009, issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. This is the fifth consecutive year Scranton has made this elite ranking.
