Scranton Listed Among Nation's Best 371 Colleges

 The University of Scranton is one of the best colleges in the nation, according to the Princeton Review. Scranton is among the elite schools profiled in the 2010 edition of the "The Best 371 Colleges" guidebook, which hit bookstores on July 28, 2009. This is the eighth consecutive year that The University of Scranton has made Princeton Review's best colleges list.

"Each of the 371 ‘best' colleges offers great academics," said Robert Franek, author of "The Best 371 Colleges" and vice president/publisher for The Princeton Review, in a news release announcing the 2010 edition.

According to Franek, outstanding academics is the primary criteria for selecting the schools to be included in the book, which lists only about 15 percent of American's 2,500 four-year colleges. Selection is based on feedback from students, parents and educators, as well as through research that involves monitoring educational news sources and surveying admissions counselors.

The guidebook includes detailed profiles of the 371 best colleges and ratings in eight categories, as well as rankings of the top 20 schools in more than 60 lists based on the Princeton Review's survey of more than 122,000 students.

In the 2010 edition, Scranton students were quoted as saying professors are "extremely accessible" and "will go to any lengths to help you understand the material and do well." In addition, Scranton's programs in pre-law, pre-med, biology, business, occupational therapy and special education were praised.

The University of Scranton was also included among the 640 colleges listed in the Princeton Review's regional "Best Colleges" guide. Scranton is included in the Northeast Region of that Web source.
