Columbia University Organist to Perform at The University of Scranton

Performance Music at The University of Scranton will present organist Timothy Smith "In Recital" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 24, in the Houlihan-McLean Center on campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Smith, university organist at Columbia University, graduated from Yale University before earning a doctor of musical arts degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Dr. Smith held the position of director of music and organist of New York's Riverside Church, and accepted his position at Columbia University in 1999.

Dr. Smith received the Theodore Presser Award and the Harry Benjamin Jepson Award from Yale University, and The Clair Cocci Award from the Manhattan School of Music. Dr. Smith's talent as a recitalist has taken him to renowned churches and cathedrals all over the world, including Chartres, Beauvais, Notre-Dame, the Church of St. Germain-des-Prez, Lincoln Cathedral and Wells Cathedral.
