Spring Break Trips
The Community Outreach Office coordinates service trips over Spring break for our undergraduate students.
Information sessions are held in October, noting the trip assignments, type of work, housing and costs. Applications are available after the information sessions. A limited number of spots are available on each trip and spots are awarded by lottery. Deposits are non-refundable. Each trip has a University of Scranton faculty, staff or graduate student chaperon. Transportation varies between driving in mini vans and flying. Accommodations are generally simple living, making and sharing meals and staying in cabins or host apartments. Students going on service trips should be flexible on housing accommodations, transportation and meals.
Service Trip information sessions 2012-13 are
Wednesday, October 3 at 8pm
and
Thursday, October 4 at 12:00 noon
Moskovitz Theater, DeNaples 4th Floor
Many of our trips follow our recent graduates who are doing a year of service in their chosen field.
Faculty, Staff and Graduate Assistants interested in chaperoning a break trip should contact Lori Moran, at lori@moran@scranton.edu, DeNaples 205D at 570-941-7429. Chaperons will be responsible for driving students, leading reflections, hosting pre and post meetings with groups, keeping close contacts with sites and handling trip finances. They should also be prepared to work with the group during the trip.
Academic Year 2012-13 coincides our spring break with Easter holiday. We predict that we will be offering mini-break trips, within driving distance, of Scranton from Saturday to Wednesday. Other trips may be offered in January as well, depending upon student interest and weather permitting.
