Nitromethane was adsorbed onto alkali halide films whereupon photolysis took place at a variety of temperatures using an H2 lamp. A number of possible primary and secondary reactions have been proposed and discussed in correspondence to the possible photoproducts identified. Photoproducts were analyzed using FTIR spectroscopy. The activation energies for desorption of nitromethane from the surfaces of NaCl, NaBr, KCl, and KBr were determined to be 28, 28, 32, and 30 kJ/mol respectively.
