5.06 Weekend: Celebrating The University of Scranton's Day of Giving

$25K for 25 Years

Class of 1992 Challenge

Eric and Elaine (Minnick) Brophy, both graduates of the Scranton Class of 1992, are loyal 5.06 donors. This year, in honor of their 25-year Reunion, they want to do something special.

Class of 1992 Challenge

"We have been trying to find a way to contribute more to the University, and after hearing about the Ignatian Global Citizenship Program, we thought that it was right in our wheelhouse," Eric said. "We're going to give $25,000 to this program on 5.06 in honor of our 25-year Reunion, and we would love to see at least 50 members of our class make a gift on 5.06 with us. We're supporting what we are passionate about, and we encourage you to do the same at whatever level you can."

Eric and Elaine already count as two of the 50-donors they are trying to reach - Will you answer their call?

Their Story

Through Eric's involvement on the Alumni Society Advisory Board, the Brophys learned about the Ignatian Global Citizenship Program, a program developed by the University's Political Science department that is focused on preparing Scranton students for a career in public service grounded in Catholic, Jesuit values. Through experiential learning and immersion programs, the program seeks to enhance students' awareness of government operations and public policy development.

"The University’s message of men and women for others has been a guiding principle in our involvement in our community and in politics," Eric said. "The Ignatian Global Citizenship Program is a perfect example of the University’s search to expand on these principles and to find ways for students to become global leaders.

"Classmates- make sure you get involved. The University of Scranton has provided all of us with tremendous opportunities to excel in life. Part of being men and women for others includes our commitment to give back. Supporting the University and programs like the Ignatian Global Leadership Program is integral to keeping the Jesuit mission alive and thriving. We look forward to seeing everyone at reunion this year. Make sure you book early!"
