PBC News

At the Twelfth Annual Award Dinner on Thursday, October 3 at The Pierre Hotel in New York City, the PBC will present Jackie '89 and John '86 Dionne with the President's Medal.  Jackie, a current Trustee of the University, is an Officer with the National Charity League and her career as a critical care nurse spanned fifteen years.  John, a former Chair of the University's Board of Trustees is a Senior Managing Director at Blackstone Group in New York City.  His career includes extensive experience in alternative investments and business development, particularly with financially troubled companies.  This year's dinner goal is $1.25 million and ties into the University's 125th Anniversary, which kicks off in August and runs through June. This year’s Dinner Chair is PBC Member Jim Slattery ’86, Chief Operating Officer – North America for Melrose PLC.  Please contact the PBC Office with any questions or to have an invitation sent to any of your colleagues, business associates or classmates.

Three Dinner-related events were held this spring.  The Dinner Kickoff was held on May 23 at the New York Athletic Club followed by "Meet the Honoree" Receptions on campus on May 30 and in Philadelphia on June 6 at The Philadelphia Country Club.  Tom O’Brien ‘86, Chair of the PBC, gave a PBC update and formally announced this year's Honorees.  Attendees also heard a University Update from Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., University President.  Gary Olsen, Vice President of University Advancement, acted as master of ceremonies.  The Dinner Kickoff also included a presentation by Ryan J. Maher, S.J., Executive Director of The Jesuit Center at the University, entitle "Jesuit Education: Information, Imagination, Formation."  These receptions allowed PBC members, alumni and friends to network and to meet members of the Dionne Family.

The PBC Office conducted a Business Networking Trip to New York City on March 6 with 23 students from the Kania SOM.  In addition to the individual visits with PBC Members at Bank of America and Bridgewater Advisors (detailed below), students also met with alumnus, Phil Grieco '00 of the Sponsorship Development Team at the National Basketball Association (NBA).  During this meeting, Phil spoke to the students about his career development in advertising and provided the group with insight into the current job market and how to stand out from the competition with specific interview and resume preparation and persistence.  Prior to our return to campus, a Networking Reception for the students was held with over 80 current and prospective PBC members in the Greater New York City area. Business Networking Trips and Receptions provide students with the opportunity to interact with alumni to further enhance the students' "soft skills" for professional development.

On April 25-26 the PBC conducted a Business Networking Trip to Boston with approximately 20 students from the Kania SOM.  Upon our arrival Thursday evening, students, local PBC Members and alumni gathered at The Boston College Club for a Networking Reception.  On Friday students visited with individual PBC Members in their places of business before the group returned to Scranton.

On May 1, Sean Kane '94, Senior Vice President of Human Resources with Heineken Americas, hosted 21 students at the Heineken offices on Park Avenue in New York City.  This visit included a student workshop providing resume reviews, mock interviews, a general presentation on Heineken, and an alumni panel discussion.  At the conclusion of the day, students attended a larger networking reception in the lobby of Heineken Americas with PBC members and alumni and friends of the University.
