PBC Updates

Happy New Year!  We hope that 2013 is off to a wonderful start.  We wish you and your families all the best for a happy and healthy year ahead!

As we begin the new year, we are pleased to announce that we have successfully completed our PBC Leadership Succession Plan with the transition to our new PBC Chair and Vice Chairs.  As was announced at the Annual Award Dinner in October, Tom O’Brien ’86, Co-Founder and CEO of SumRidge Partners, is our new Chair.  Tom was an original member of the PBC’s Executive Committee in 2001 and has served as a Vice Chair since 2008.  In addition to the new Chair, the Vice Chair positions have been restructured to better support our PBC objectives.  More information about these changes will follow in a separate correspondence, but joining Tom in our leadership transition are:

Patti Clifford ’86, Global Chief Talent Officer for Havas Worldwide and Chief Talent Officer for Havas Creative, as the new Vice Chair for Student Engagement.

Tom Lynch ’86, Executive Vice President for KDC Solar, LLC, as the new Vice Chair for Fundraising.

Elizabeth Madden ’96, Vice President for Global Securities Services for Goldman Sachs, as the new Vice Chair for Networking and Member Development.

Special acknowledgments of gratitude are extended to our outgoing PBC Chair, Mary Beth Farrell ’79, and outgoing Vice Chair, John Dionne ’86.  Mary Beth and John were the co-founding Vice Chairs of the PBC, with Mary Beth serving as PBC Chair for the past 5 years.  We thank them deeply for their leadership and continued support.  We look forward to their ongoing participation as members of our Executive Committee.

Internship and Job Opportunities

The PBC is committed to increasing the internship and career opportunities for our Kania School of Management students.  PBC members have been extremely supportive of these efforts in the past.  As we seek to move forward with additional placements for our students, we would appreciate your assistance.  We have attached the Internship Information Form for your reference.  If you are not in a position to hire, we ask for any assistance that you could provide with the hiring process in your company.  Please reach out to Michele Felins (michele.felins@scranton.edu) if you have any open positions for which you can consider a Scranton student.

During the past year, the PBC Office has increased the number of internship opportunities available to Scranton students at companies such as Adidas, Alpha FMC, AXA Equitable, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, JJT Energy, Maiden Re, Morgan Stanley, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.  The PBC Office conducts a targeted recruiting process to support members in all areas of corporations to assist in the hiring of a Scranton student.
