If there is no opportunity available in your area, you may take part in an individual service project, or spearhead a project in your community by emailing alumni@scranton.edu.

  • April 24 - Assist with all aspects of the Cardinal Cup, a 5K race and fun walk to benefit Mother Seton Academy.
    • Saturday April 24, 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

      We are seeking 10 volunteers to assist with all aspects of the Cardinal Cup, a 5K race and fun walk to benefit Mother Seton Academy.  Volunteers will assist with a variety of aspects of the race.  Opportunities may include distributing tee-shirts and numbers before the race, setting up and cleaning up food and beverages for participants, working the water stations throughout the race course, and more.

  • Help with the Spring cleaning at Mother Seton Academy in North Baltimore.
    • Saturday April 17, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

      We are seeking 10 volunteers to assist with spring-cleaning of the school building.  Following an orientation to the school, volunteers will help clean classrooms, hallways, and stairwells in the school building.  Some administrative work such as preparing mailings may also be available.

  • The Scranton Club of the Lehigh Valley

  • April 16: Assist Seventh Street Allentown with a tree planting project.
    • Saturday, April 16 at 9:30 a.m.

      Please join your fellow alumni in assisting Seventh Street Allentown with a tree planting project. Under the Pennsylvania Downtown Center’s Main Street Program, the organization’s mission is to revitalize Allentown’s downtown by providing resources to create a clean and safe environment.

      Alums will be fertilizing the trees we planted last year, replacing watering bags, mulching etc.

      Volunteers may arrive at St Luke's Church (417 N.7th St)  around 9:30 a.m. for coffee/sign-in and begin around 10 a.m.  All projects will wrap up by 1 p.m.

  • Volunteer at the The Stone Mountain Reservation in Essex County.
    • Saturday, April 17 from 9.30 a.m.

      Join us at The Stone Mountain Reservation to where our efforts will focus on trail maintenance and invasive plant removal.

      We will meet at the Codey Arena South Mountain Recreation Complex Mini-Golf center Parking Lot at 9:30 a.m. and car pool over to work area.

      Boots and long pants should be worn, heavy rain might change plan. Lunch will be provided and early afternoon completion expected.

  • Plant trees on Fulton Street.
    • Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

      Join Scranton alumni and members of the Newark community for Tree Planting on Fulton Street.

      Rain or shine

      Volunteers will meet in front of 21 Fulton Street to get started with a tree planting demonstration and hand out tools. There will be limited parking along Fulton Street, so volunteers are encouraged to carpool, park along neighboring blocks, and/or take public transportation to get there.

  • POSTPONED - Participate in a number of painting projects at Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx.
    • POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER.  MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW.

      Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

      We are seeking 20 to 40 volunteers to participate in a number of painting projects at Pelham Bay Park. Scrape and paint park benches, lamp posts and possibly sections of park house/bathrooms in a playground. All materials will be provided, but volunteers bringing their own gloves would be appreciated. 

      Meet At the tennis courts. Walk into park from Subway/Bus stop and bear left, tennis courts are a 3 minute walk, just beyond the woodland area. From the parking lot, walk across the running track to the tennis courts.

      Directions
      By Subway The IRT's No. 6 line's last stop is Pelham Bay Park
      By Bus The Bx 12, Bx29, Bx5, Bx52 and Westchester line No. 45 serve the park.
      By Car The Bruckner Expressway/New England Thruway to "Country Club Road/Pelham Bay Park" Turn on to Middletown Road along the park edge and park in the large parking area near  the woods/track and fields.

  • Volunteer at the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City.
    • Saturday, April 17 from 9:00 a.m. - Noon

      We are seeking 20 to 30 volunteers to help at the shelter.  They are looking for volunteers that are willing to walk the dogs, clean cat cages, and play with the cats, and also help at their flea market.

  • Join University of Scranton students in a “Street Sweep” of the Hill Section.
    • Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m.

      Please join your fellow alumni and current students of the University of Scranton in cleaning up the Hill Section. Student government will provide all the necessary supplies (trash bags, gloves, etc.).

  • Help with gardening and yard clean up at Project Rainbow.
    • Saturday April 16 from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.

      10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Flower Planting
      11:30 a.m. - 1p.m. Painting Project
      1 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Optional Lunch

      We will need about 10-15 volunteers who will help with painting, gardening and yard clean up at the residential facility at Project Rainbow.  Afterwards we will have a cook-out and enjoy lunch with the famillies.  We will need the  volunteers to bring their own gloves and gardening tools.  If you would like to also bring a flat of plants, it would be greatly appreciated.  We will assist with the cooking as well. 

      Project Rainbow Residential facility is located at 413 W. Master Street, Philadelphia.

  • Join us for a park clean-up in Wissahickon Park.
    • Saturday April 17 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

      We are in need of 10 to 15 people to help with a clean up at Wissahickon Park. Please wear boots or sturdy sneakers. There will be a orientation, so please arrive on time. We request volunteers to bring their own gloves, and bring a reusable water bottle.

  • Join us at The National Arboretum for a Book and Art Sale
    • Saturday April 17 at 9 a.m.

      Alumni will assist Arboretum staff at the fundraiser sale by helping to set-up merchandise areas, greet and direct attendees, and provide other types of hands on assistance around the Arboretum.  Proceeds from this event support the Gardens.  You will also have an opportunity to explore some of the gardens—a great way to provide service and appreciate our environment around Earth Day!

      Join Scranton alumni for tree planting and mulching at

      Location change: Marrama Park

      We are looking for up to 20 volunteers to help plant trees and mulch at Filing 20 Park. For safety reasons, it is recommended that volunteers wear boots or hard soled shoes, avoid short shorts and sandals, wear long slacks and long-sleeved shirts and dress in layers. Volunteers should also bring work gloves, water bottles and lunch/snacks.

      Tools will be provided by Denver Parks & Recreation.
