University Student Among Nation’s Science Elite
Goldwater Scholar Christopher L. Kilner

Triple major Christopher L. Kilner is among just 260 students in the nation earning a 2015-2016 Goldwater Scholarship — one of the most coveted honors in academia. The biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, environmental science and philosophy major and member of the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program is the 11th Scranton student to earn a Goldwater Scholarship.

The scholars are selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,206 mathematics, science and engineering students nominated by faculties nationwide.

Kilner, a junior from Rockville, Maryland, maintains a 4.0 GPA while pursuing a rigorous academic load, participating in research and staying active in student government. He founded a nonprofit organization aiding Native American children and was a summer research intern at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

He plans to pursue a Ph.D. and J.D. in environment and natural resources, specializing in conservation biology.
