Information Update - Spring 2012

Curriculum Laboratory Collection Update

Professor Sandy Lamanna will be working throughout the spring semester to help update the ED LAB (Curriculum Collection) housed in the Media Center on the third floor of the Library. Almost half of the books in this collection are textbooks for the K-12 pre-service education students who may need to consult them for design of lesson and unit plans and generally understand what the local and regional schools are using in their content area classrooms. The books were formerly housed in the Education Department, but were moved here at the request of the Department when the Weinberg Library was built. This solution offered a way for better access and circulation control of the collection. In addition to the textbooks, the Library has added a significant number of trade books for the K-12 audience, both fiction and non-fiction, that can be consulted to enhance the above-mentioned lesson and unit plans. All Newbery and Caldecott award- winning books are found here, too, thanks to a bequest from the family of Paula Snyder. Lamanna will be contacting publishers of elementary and secondary textbooks and asking her colleagues in the Education Department to do the same in her attempt to add the most recent titles available to this heavily used collection.
