Book Donations — A Way to Remember
- In the past several years, faculty and staff of the University of Scranton, as well as alumni, former employees, and members of the community have contacted the Weinberg Library to ask about donating a book to the Library's collection in honor of a special birthday or anniversary or in memory of a loved one who had recently died. These requests are welcomed and encouraged. Bonnie Strohl, Associate Director, will ask the donor about the honoree's interests, hobbies, or profession and then solicit recommendations from the subject bibliographer in that area for suggestions based on price and availability. The book is then purchased, cataloged, and processed with a special book plate naming the honoree. A letter is sent to the family of the deceased, listing the title and call number of the book, as well as the name and address of the donor. Books in a wide range of subjects and genres, including children's books, have been added to the collection, and the permanence of this type of gift is comforting to family members who wish to remember their loved ones.
- The Weinberg Library also adds books each year when our work-study students graduate. Titles are selected to reflect the student's major and a bookplate is added to the book with the graduating senior's name and year of graduation.
If you would like more information about this giving opportunity, please contact Bonnie Strohl at the Weinberg Library at 941-4006 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
