Services & Policies - Spring 2005

Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence New Services for Students and Faculty

During the fall 2004 semester the Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence (CTLE) provided peer tutoring, reading and writing consultation for more than 900 undergraduate and graduate students. Several workshops were provided to students to help them make the most of their time management and improve their study skills. In the spring 2005 semester students will be able to access several tutorials online related to note taking, reading strategies and organizational skills. These tutorials can be accessed via the CTLE Web site at www.scranton.edu/ctle. Each tutorial is about 15 minutes in duration and provides excellent information to help students achieve success at the University of Scranton. In addition on the CTLE Web site is a tutorial to help students navigate effectively through the Blackboard Course Management System that is used by faculty teaching online and in traditional classroom settings.

The CTLE houses a teaching library with resources for faculty. The CTLE resource library has over 300 titles covering a wide array of topics ranging from teaching methods, learning styles, assessment, information literacy, and other related items in higher education. The book listing is searchable by title, author, call number, ISBN, editor and year. Faculty can access this information on the CTLE Web site.

Many activities are planned for spring 2005 for faculty advancement including small group discussions offered by faculty to colleagues to enhance pedagogical skills. The topics for these monthly discussions will vary and are designed to stimulate collegial exchanges on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).

Once again the CTLE in conjunction with the Office of the Provost will sponsor the Part-Time Faculty Teaching Excellence Award. Part-time faculty may self-nominate or be nominated by colleagues. The deadline for applying for this award is March 10, 2005. Please visit the CTLE Web site for more information on upcoming events. Faculty and students can register for programs and services online. For further information please do not hesitate to contact the CTLE staff at ext. 4038.
