Check through the attic and through that box of old books
and bring your treasures to be appraised by Jack Walsdorf,
author, book collector, lecturer, and appraiser from Portland,
Oregon, who will be here at the University of Scranton on
April 14 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Brennan Hall, Room 516, to
conduct his famed "Book Lovers Road Show." The program has
been described as "The Antiques Road Show" for book collectors
and book lovers. The session will begin with a brief
talk, "The ABC's of Book Collecting", on the whys, hows, pleasures
and perils of book collecting. Attendees are encouraged
to bring their books for examination and appraisal.
The University community will remember Jack, as he is called,
for his contributions and his collection which was featured
in the "William Morris and the Kelmscott Press" in 1994.
In addition, his other major press collections include the
books produced b
y T. J. Cobden-Sanderson and the Doves Press.
T. J. Wise, August Derleth, Willie Morris, Anne Tyler, Richard
Ford, and Charles Dickens are a few of the authors Jack collects.
His published works include a bibliography of Julian Symons,
the English mystery writer and critic, in 1996 and, most recently
(2001), The Yellow Barn Press: A History and Bibliography. In addition to exhibiting his collection here
at the University of Scranton, he has also exhibited at the
University of Iowa and George Washington University.
He is currently affiliated with Alibris, an online out-of-print
book finding service.
