The Results Are In! Library Assesses Users’ Perceptions
The Library successfully administered the web based LibQUAL+™ assessment of users' perceptions in Spring 2006. LibQUAL+™ was initiated at Texas A & M in 2000 as an experimental project for benchmarking perceptions of library service in ARL libraries. > Full story
Media Resources and Ed Lab in New Locations
The Weinberg Memorial Library formally opened on June 8, 1992. Since that time, the Library has undergone a number of changes, including the addition of Java City, an enhanced technology group study room, wireless connectivity, and the McDade Room to house the papers of the Congressman. This past summer the first major relocation project took place. The Media Resources Center and the Education Laboratory were moved to the third floor. The technical services departments were relocated to the first floor. > Full story
Focus Groups Suggest Changes to Library Web Site
Data collected from the focus group research conducted by Professor Bonnie Oldham during the fall 2005 semester is being utilized by the Library staff to improve the usability of the Library’s web site. > Full story
Best Selling Author Phillip M. Margolin To Receive Distinguished Author Award

Recent Developments in the Patriot Act and Some New (Old) Classified Docs
The federal government has been busy this year revising and renewing the USA Patriot Act and reclassifying old documents that have been available to the public for years. On March 9, 2006, President George Bush signed the bill reauthorizing the infamous USA Patriot Act. The bill, already passed by the Senate, had been approved by the House of Representatives two days before, meeting its two-thirds majority requirement by just two votes. All this was just in time before the original bill was set to expire. > Full story

Book Club Looks at Children’s Literature
A different kind of book club was formed this past summer with weekly meetings held at lunchtime in Room 305 of the Weinberg Memorial Library. Katie Duke, Information Literacy Coordinator, and Betsey Moylan, Reference Coordinator, sent a message via B-Board inviting any University staff members who might have an interest in reading the Newbery award winning books for young children to attend an organizational meeting. > Full story
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Comes to Libraries
RFID technology is rapidly becoming pervasive throughout all facets of our society. RFID is being used by the transportation industry to collect tolls and fares, by retailers to track products, and by animal control professionals to identify pets. The United States has begun to issue Electronic Passports which look the same as regular passports, but which also have an RFID tag that stores and transmits the information that is on the photo page of the passport. > Full story

The demands on the peer tutoring program over the past two years have been steadily increasing to approximately 1000 requests per term. > Full story

J. J. Quinn, S.J. Lecture and Dedication Held
The second annual lecture honoring the Catholic Intellectual tradition and the late Rev. J.J. Quinn, S.J., faculty member in the English Department at the University, was held on April 27 in the Heritage Room of the Weinberg Library. > Full story

Libraries: Hand in Hand, the annual spring workshop presented by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Library Network and the Northeast Chapter of the Pennsylvania Library Association, was held in Brennan Hall at the University of Scranton on Thursday, June 15, 2006. > Full story
