Commonwealth Speaker Joyce Henry will present "Shakespeare's Women: At Every Stage"

Commonwealth Speaker Dr. Joyce E. Henry, Emerita Professor of Theater, Ursinus College, will present a Pennsylvania Humanities Council (PHC) program titled "Shakespeare's Women: At Every Stage." The event is co-sponsored by The Weinberg Memorial Library and the Scranton Historical Society. Dr. Joyce explores Shakespeare's women by using clues available in the plays and drawing from Shakespeare's deep insights. Shakespeare's female characters range from love-obsessed adolescents to middle-aged wo rld rulers. Dr. Joyce will perform and examine the speeches of such characters as Desdemona, Kate, and Cleopatra. The presentation is sponsored by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
