Dr. Kelly teaches a variety of courses: organizational, gender, small group, and interpersonal communication; introductory and advanced public relations; and communication theory. Before coming to Scranton, she was a tenured professor and the director of graduate studies at San Jose State University, San Jose, CA.
Women’s rights advocate. For the past thirty years, Dr. Kelly has been engaged in projects designed to elevate the status of women. She is a founding member of the Luzerne County Commission for Women and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Women in Higher Education. Dr. Kelly served as a board member for the Pennsylvania Women’s Campaign Fund, a statewide political action committee that funds progressive women candidates for the state legislature and for the Penn’s Woods Girl Scout Council. During President Bill Clinton’s tenure, she consulted with the White House Office on Women’s Outreach and Initiatives and prepared a report, “Women’s Voices,” that was circulated throughout the administration and other federal agencies. She regularly offers communication workshops/seminars for local women’s groups and has worked on several political campaigns. Dr. Kelly supports, through membership and/or financial support, the National Organization for Women (NOW), The American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Organization for Research on Women and Communication (ORWAC) and the Fund for the Feminist Majority.
