  • Improving patient safety and communication among healthcare teams through the use of simulation methodology
  • Integrating the use of checklists into nurse anesthesia practice to improve patient safety
  • Expanding the use of technology to improve curriculum content delivery.

Dr. Gilligan has worked in many areas during his career including critical care, emergency, hyperbaric, pre-hospital, flight (fixed wing and rotor), and anesthesia. He is an instructor for the American Heart Association teaching BLS, PALS, and ACLS. Along with his academic responsibilities, Dr. Gilligan currently practice as an anesthetist in a regional trauma center. 

He enjoys spending time outdoors, photography, and flying.
