Peter C. Olden, PhD, MHA

Bio

Peter C. Olden earned an MHA at Duke University in the 1970s and worked as a hospital executive for fourteen years at a community hospital, teaching hospital, and regional medical center. In the 1990s, he earned a PhD in Health Services Organization & Research at Virginia Commonwealth University and began his academic career at The University of Scranton. Pete is currently a full time Professor, teaching in both the graduate and undergraduate health administration programs. For eleven years he directed the Graduate Health Administration Program, and he has also served as Department Chair. He has taught courses on health care management, strategic planning, economics, marketing, human resources, and the US health care system. His scholarship pertains mostly to managing health care organizations and the US health care system. Dr. Olden has served on editorial boards and published in journals including Milbank Quarterly, Health Services Research, Journal of Healthcare Management, Health Care Management Review,Health Care Manager, and Journal of Health Administration Education. He has published an undergraduate textbook for health care management that is now in its second edition. Dr. Olden has presented at the Academy of Management, Association of University Programs in Health Administration, American Public Health Association, Academy Health, other conferences, and in other countries. Pete is active in scholarly and professional associations and earned Fellowship in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has provided volunteer service to organizations at the local, state, and national levels.

Research and scholarship has studied hospitals, hospital systems, the US health care system, health promotion/wellness services, and management of health care organizations.
